Snowdrop trip 9th February 2024

We enjoyed a trip to Welford Park, there were 15 of us on the trip and Ruth’s husband Jon kindly drove the mini bus for us. The snowdrops were in full bloom and looked great in the woodland setting – a true carpet of white!

5th August 2022 visit to Iford Manor Gardens

8.30 start from Cricklade in the Open Door minibus with Jon Oliver kindly driving.

Iford sits at the bottom of the Frome Valley,  just beyond Bradford-on-Avon.

We had arranged a private tour early in the morning with an excellent introduction from the current owner William Cartwright Hignett.

We learnt that the house had humble origins as a wool mill and factory, and that there had been dwellings there since Roman times.

When Harold Peto discovered it as a country retreat he used it as a place to experiment with architectural design heavily influenced by his travels abroad and particularly by Italy.

The gardens have a great sense of place and spirituality which we were able to enjoy to the full.

More prosaically the cafe’s cakes and drinks were all delicious!

February  10th 2022 Cerney House for the snowdrops.

A small group met at the Town Hall car park and went by car. The gardens seemed much improved with a lot of undergrowth cleared and new plantings of snow drops and spring flowers. A lovely morning visit.

Next planned visit, RHS Malvern Spring Show. We will go to the show by minibus on Friday, 6th of May leaving the Town Hall Car Park at 9.00am

There are two tickets remaining for the trip – cost £29 per ticket (group rate) separate fuel costs on the day approximately £7 to £10. Contact Anne on apwest2@gmail.com if you wish to come.
