The programme of  guest speakers for October 2021 onwards

Here are the guest speakers booked for the rest of the year with a taster of those to come in 2022. The programme for next year will be added to as the speakers are confirmed so please keep an eye out for updates.

October 12th – Andrew Woodall, Head Gardener at Broughton Grange will talk about his 60 years as a gardener including his current position at Broughton Grange in Oxfordshire which the club has visited in the past.

November 9th – Sam and Kate Davies will take us through their journey towards self sufficiency by telling us about their smallholding in Shropshire. They will be bringing their own honey to sell.

Dec 14th – Photographer Adrian James will be back with us again but hopefully this time in person. To end the year on a light-hearted note, his talk is entitled ‘ Folklore and More! – a first dip into the whole fascinating  and often humorous area of folklore and legends associated with plants, seasons and traditions’.

No meeting in January and February 2022

March 8th – Mandy Bradshaw, freelance writer, editor and photographer “Finding the Angle at Chelsea-A journalist’s view of the world-famous flower show.”

April 12th – Paul Green of Green Leaves Nursery is to give us a presentation entitled ‘Sensory Sensations’ highlighting the perfect plants to please all the senses.

May 10th – Jess Jones will give a talk entitled ‘We need to talk about Buxus’; covering its history and use, box blight and treatment and alternatives. Jess will bring some box plants to illustrate and also lots of other plants to sell.

June 14th – British botanist Timothy Walker is to talk about ‘Being a 21st Century gardener’. Hopefully he will offer some advice on how to help our gardens cope with the changing climate. Timothy retired from his position as the Horti Praefectus of the University of Oxford Botanic Garden and Harcourt Arboretum and now is an author and lecturer.

July 12th – TBC

Richard Rickett a beekeeper and Editor of National Beekeeper magazine will be coming back to give his postponed talk on Gardening for Bees. He is a founder of Bathbees which he runs with his wife and Richard will bring some of their bee-related products for sale.
